Bausher Hockey Club pipped heavyweights Al Nasr and Ahli-Sidab clubs to clinch the 36th edition of the National Hockey League that concluded last week at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC).
The title victory was the first senior title for the club. In the ten-team league, Bausher finished on top with 11 points, while former champion Al Nasr settled for the runner-up spot with ten points.
Ahli-Sidab, also a multiple winner, finished third behind Al Nasr on goal difference after garnering ten points. Bausher, which is coached by Oman's Khalid Ayad and Yasir al Shazaly of Egypt, sealed the title after it edged Seeb 3-2 in its concluding round robin match of the final round. Coach Shazaly said after receiving the winner's trophy, “It is big moment as the club has won the title for the first time. We have done well in the junior and youth leagues in the past few years. It feels good to win the senior title now.”
